Summary

The recent guidelines from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) have called for improved specialized care of patients with disorders of consciousness. Realizing the potential disparities between care settings and the differences in care challenges according to the time post-injury, the panel will l focus on the specialized care currently offered in subacute versus long term care settings. The changes that are recommended by the AAN and EAN guidelines and the challenges that are associated with such changes when it comes to implementation will also be examined.
