Non-invasive Brain Stimulation: Opening up New Horizons in Neurorehabilitation
Rick van der Vliet studied Medicine and Neuroscience at the Erasmus MC and Biomedical Engineering at the TU Delft. In 2013 he started his PhD as part of the Neuras collaboration at the Departments of Neuroscience and Rehabilitation Medicine of the Erasmus MC and Rijndam Rehabilitation Centre focusing on improving motor learning and rehabilitation in healthy subjects and stroke patients using transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS). This project has two main goals. First, to investigate working mechanisms of tDCS and optimize enhancement of motor learning rate in young healthy individuals. Second, to create innovative tDCS protocols based on insights from healthy volunteer studies and establish clinical motor improvement of stroke patients receiving tDCS treatment.
