Carlo Efisio Marras





Carlo Efisio Marras was born in the Sardinia island (Italy) in 1964. After receiving a degree in Medicine at the University of Cagliari in 1992, he had an honorary medical position in Colombia attending to the people of the rivers of the Llanos area.

In 2000 he received the Neurosurgery Board Certification at the University of Milan and became a Consultant at the National Neurological Institute C.Besta of Milan where he was involved mainly in brain tumors, epilepsy, and movement disorder surgery programs both in adults and children. Between 2002 and 2009 he was involved in functional neurosurgery research mainly focused on movement disorder, pain, psychiatric disorders, and epilepsy.

Between 2000 and 2005 he carried out some fellowships respectively on Neurovascular surgery at the NHNN Queen Square London; on Restorative Neurosurgery and on Epilepsy Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

In 2004 he received the CNS Radiosurgery Certification at Stanford University, in 2010 he received his Masters on Hospital Medical and Surgical Units Management, and in 2014 he received the Qualification from the National Ministry of Health for Neurosurgery Academic tenure.

Since 2012 Dr. Marras has been the Chief of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Unit at the Bambino Gesù Children Hospital where he had the opportunity to develop a robotic surgery program including functional neurosurgery for DBS and lesional procedures. He is the Coordinator of the Commission of Epilepsy Surgery of the Italian League Against Epilepsy.

He is the author of 110 peer reviewed papers (H-Index 24; Impact-Points 200.7; Citations 1153), and of 10 book chapters mostly focused on Functional Neurosurgery (59 papers, 8 book chapters).
