Bambino Gesù Rehabilitation Facility Tour

If you would like to visit the PNU and MARLab, in order to directly see the clinical and rehabilitation activities, a tour has been organized for Wednesday, September 20th, from 8:30am - 12:30pm, leaving and returning from the Pontificia Università Urbaniana, free of charge.

Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital, with 607 beds and 40 clinical specialties, is the biggest pediatric Institute for Research, Hospitalization and Health Care in Europe, linked to the major international pediatric centers. With almost 2,600 people employed including doctors, researchers, nurses, hospital technicians and clerks, a high number of patients are treated every year: 27,000 admissions, 25,000 surgeries, 71,000 entires to the emergency department, more than 1 million outpatient services to children and teenagers coming from all over the world.

In this context the Pediatric Neurorehabilitation Unit (PNU), with 50 inpatient beds (9 beds are dedicated to subacute patients), represents a unique reality at national level and one of the few in the world. Being that the PNU is in a Pediatric Hospital, with specialists able to manage every clinical and rehabilitative aspect, makes it possible to rehabilitate children of any age with every type of severity due to neurological damage. In fact, the PNU is the national reference for complex cases: direct access is guaranteed to patients coming from the ICU of the main Italian hospitals. In 2016 more than 700 children were admitted in Neurorehabilitation for 17,100 days of hospitalization, plus 5,100 days of Day Hospital and over 11,000 outpatient medical checks. The main neurological diseases treated with intensive rehabilitation programs are cerebral palsy, head trauma, congenital or acquired spinal injuries, brain tumors, stroke, neuromuscular diseases, etc.

The Movement Analysis and Robotics Laboratory (MARLab) is an integral part of the rehabilitation activities. It is equipped with the most advanced systems for the study of the movement along with innovative robotic devices for the functional recovery of motor deficits (Lokomat Robotic System, Robot Arm, Robot Wrist, Re-Walk, a 6-DOF robotic platform). Finally, the scientific research is an important part of their activities.

The maximum number of participants is 30, on a first-come, first served basis.
