Return to Work After Acquired Brain Injury: An Overview of Vocational Rehabilitation Interventions
Coen van Bennekom is professor in rehabilitation and labour, with a focus on those with acquired brain injury, at the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Medicine (AMC-UvA), the Netherlands. His PhD-study was on clinimetrics of an instrument to assess disabilities.
As rehabilitation physician he set up a brain injury department for inpatients and outpatients with severe cognitive problems. He is head of the research and development department of rehabcenter Heliomare that focusses on applied scientific research in collaboration with academic centers. His special interest fields are vocational rehabilitation, clinimetric evaluation and eHealth. He worked on several national databases (spinal cord injury and early intervention core set on chronic pain) and set up a system for continuous monitoring progress for inpatients. He has published on the field of outcome measurement, return to work and brain injury related topics.
Van Bennekom is clinician educator at the Vrije Universiteit-Heliomare training program for residents in rehabilitation medicine. Since 2014 he is president of the science committee of the Dutch Association of Rehabilitation Medicine.
